This program has been specifically designed to meet the licensing requirements for a Security (Guard) Weapons Licence in Queensland.

This program has been specifically designed to meet the licensing requirements for a Security (Guard) Weapons Licence in Queensland.
The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to:
- safely and effectively determine a response to risk situations
- manage incidents using firearms, ballistic vests, batons and handcuffs.
Participants will also receive training in:
- weapon retention
- weapon disarming
- weapon maintenance
- the legalities pertaining to the use of force
If you are already a licensed armed security officer and need to complete your re-validation course, you will need to complete Annual Firearms Re-certification.

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this course you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment. This will allow for the application to Weapons Licensing Queensland for a Security (Guard) Firearms Licence with firearm categories C & E. You will also participate in Firearms Safety (Category H).
This will be a requirement for the following job roles:

- Armed Cash in Transit
- Plain Clothes Cash-in-Transit

- CPPSEC3103 Determine and implement response to security risk situation
- CPPSEC3102 Maintain operational safety and security of the work environment
- CPPSEC3114 Control security risk situations using firearms
- CPPSEC3110 Control persons using baton
- CPPSEC3111 Restrain persons using handcuffs
- WSCQPS005 Demonstrate the safe use of category H firearms

Firearms Licensing
In order to qualify for a Security Licence (Guard) in Queensland, all applicants applying for this type of licence, must provide with their new licence application, a statement of attainment (issued in the last 12 months) from an RTO showing they have completed the appropriate units of the CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations.
Applications made for Security Guard Firearms Licences are handled by the Weapons Licencing Branch of the Queensland Police. This service incurs a fee to process, approve and issue licences which is not included in the cost of the course.

Assessment Re-Submission Fees
Should you be deemed not competent after 2 attempts at a unit of competency, an assessment re-submission fee of $50 will apply per assessment.
Re-Enrolment
Should you wish to cancel your course or your enrolment is cancelled by us due to no progress and you then wish to re-enrol, a re-enrolment fee of 25% of the standard course fee will apply if requested within 3 months of initial cancellation. If re-enrolment is requested within 4 – 12 months of initial cancellation, 50% of the standard course fee will apply.
In order to undertake this course, you must:
- Currently hold or be applying for a Class 1 Security Providers Licence having completed CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations with the licence function Cash In Transit.
- Be 18 years of age or older and have had no criminal convictions in previous 10 years to be eligible for a Security Providers Licence. Note: driving offences (e.g. speeding, drink driving, etc.) are not normally disqualifying offences.
- Be an Australian Citizen or hold an appropriate Visa to work in the Security Industry in Queensland.
You will require basic English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. If you have not previously completed any vocational training you may be required to undertake an Online LLN ASSESSMENT prior to commencing enrolment in this course.
You must be able to read and understand organisational policies and procedures, write reports and communicate with others in plain English.
This course is not open to international students (student visa 500).

Face To Face
This course is delivered face-to-face over 1 week (6 days). You will complete theory assessments online in class. You will attend 1 day at a live firing range where you will receive individual coaching before your safe handling skills and marksmanship are assessed.

On completion, you may become eligible for roles such as unarmed security officer, crowd controller, monitoring centre operator, access control or guard duties. It also provides a pathway into higher security qualifications and specialist functions.

Upon successful completion you receive the Certificate II in Security Operations and become eligible to apply for a security licence in your state. From there you may choose specialist pathways or further study such as Certificate III in Security Operations, close protection or investigations.

No — the Certificate II focuses on general security functions (unarmed, crowd control, monitoring). Specialist functions such as bodyguard, armed guard or investigations are covered by higher-level qualifications or specific skill sets.

How do I apply for a security licence?
How do I apply for a security licence?
After completing your Certificate II in Security Operations, you can apply for a security licence through your state or territory’s licensing authority. The process generally includes:
Submitting your qualification certificate
Providing identification and proof of eligibility
Completing a criminal history check
Paying the applicable licensing fees
Each state has slightly different requirements. For example:
QLD: Apply through the Office of Fair Trading
NSW: Apply through Service NSW / NSW Police
NT, SA, VIC, TAS, WA: Apply through your state’s regulatory body
