TLILIC0003 Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck
This course is currently only available at our Launceston (TAS) office. It is aimed at people who have minimal or no forklift operating knowledge.
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.
Forklift truck means a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground, but does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck.
A person performing this work is required to hold a forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this training, students will be awarded a TLILIC0003 Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck.
You will gain an understanding of:
- Pre-start inspections
- Controls and dashboard orientation
- Common activities and/or tasks for forklift driver/operator
- Shut down procedure
- Machine fundamentals, safety & emergencies
You will receive an interim High Risk Forklift licence on completion of your training. You must lodge your licence at a Service Tasmania outlet within 60 days of completing your training. You will also be required to pay the prescribed fee.
Entry Requirements
There are no pre-requisite units required for entry to this course.
You will however require basic English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills.
Students must also be 18 years of age or older and have a sound understanding of maths.

Delivery Options
Training will be delivered by an experienced and qualified trainer, face to face over 2 days.
Training follows a specifically prepared course session plan and utilises materials such as participant guides, review questions, and practical demonstration and tasks.

Licensing Requirements
High Risk Forklift licensing is administered by Service Tasmania.\
You must apply in person at a service centre, with a completed application form (PDF, 344KB), your assessment, interim summary assessment and proof of identity. Your licence is valid for 5 years.
